Our friend at OAI sent this over today.
The Wright Center for Sensor Systems Engineering (WCSSE), has issued an RFP in the areas of energy, environment and sustainability. The total funds available through this solicitation are approximately $1,000,000 and the period of performance is January 1, 2009 – December 31, 2009.
The overview from the RFP states:
In response to the current technology and market-driven needs for smaller, faster, and less expensive and more efficient sensors and integrated sensor systems, the Wright Center for Sensor Systems Engineering is issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP). This solicitation requests proposals from industry and academic partners for the development and commercialization of sensors and integrated sensor systems that meet the critical national needs in energy, the environment and sustainability. Examples include, but are not limited to: (1) the development of advanced sensing systems to support the deployment of alternative energy sources in the power grid to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining reliability and robustness, (2) the development of advanced sensing systems that can be deployed for the effective measurement of explicit infrastructure (roads, highways, bridges and water/gas piping systems) performance characteristics such as fatigue, corrosion, stress, usage, damage, etc. Teams are encouraged to incorporate wireless technology in their sensor system design, where appropriate. For project teams selected for funding, WCSSE will provide MSP410 wireless modules from Crossbow free of charge. The Data Sheet and Users Manual are included with this solicitation.
Proposals responsive to this solicitation must clearly identify the technology and market needs and provide a compelling plan for technology development through commercialization.
