Youngstown “Third Thursdays at 3″

Youngstown Business Incubator is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the Third Thursdays at 3 (TH3) series. TH3 is a networking and educational forum that brings together innovative and progressive people with a vision – to create and sustain an innovative and entrepreneurial environment in the Mahoning Valley.  TH3 events are for local companies to showcase new technologies, for technology organizations to share their resources, for entrepreneurs to build relationships, for educators to highlight their initiatives – it is a place for innovative talk, robust debates, inquiring minds. It is an opportunity to learn about the “cool things” going on – right here in the backyard of the Mahoning Valley! Y

BI is honored that Innovation Networks, a committee established by BLDG MV (Business Led Development Group– Mahoning Valley), has asked YBI to carry on this initiative. YBI appreciates the support of the community leaders involved with Innovation Networks.

Join us at Girard High School Library, 31 N. Ward Avenue on January 17th, where Girard High School’s FIRST Team will discuss their Robotics team and share the excitement and benefits of FIRST.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) motivates kids to take interest in math, science, and engineering and seek careers in technology fields.  The vision is to create an atmosphere where scientists and engineers are celebrated as heroes.  Mentors work with students to design, build, and compete with robot in a game that requires cooperation, strategy, and creativity.  The game is unveiled in January, and teams have six weeks to design and build their robots for the Regional Tournaments that are held throughout world, culminating with the Championship Tournament in April.

There are over 1,500 high schools competing in FIRST.  Students learn organizational, critical thinking, problem-solving, and team working skills as well as use math, science, and technology abilities learned in the classroom.  A successful program must also promote itself and raise funds necessary to compete, so students also apply writing, public speaking, presentation, and other communication skills.
